Description

Not all composters are built for real outdoor use.

The Greenes Fence Cedar Wood Composter is constructed from thick, natural cedar, a material proven to perform in wet, soil-contact environments year after year. Unlike lightweight composters made from thinner boards, our cedar design delivers noticeable strength, stability, and longevity from the moment it’s assembled.

Cedar naturally resists rot and insects without chemical treatments, making it ideal for composting and safe for food gardens. The heavier construction helps the composter maintain its shape even when filled with dense, moisture-rich compost.

Why Cedar Matters

▼

Cedar is one of the most trusted woods for outdoor use. Its natural oils help it withstand moisture, insects, and long-term exposure without chemical preservatives.

For composting — where soil contact and damp conditions are unavoidable — cedar offers long-term durability and peace of mind that lighter woods can’t match.

Second Life Wood™

▶

Second Life Wood™ composters are built from the same durable cedar as our standard models, with added natural character.

Boards may show knots, color variation, or slight bowing. These cosmetic traits do not affect strength or performance.

Choosing Second Life Wood™ helps extend the life of quality cedar, reduce waste, and deliver a fully functional composter at a lower price.

What You May Notice

  • Knots or knot holes
  • Natural color variation
  • Minor cosmetic imperfections

What You Won’t

  • Reduced strength
  • Reduced composting performance
  • Shortened usable life from normal outdoor use

🔩

Assembly & Care

▶

Our dovetail design allows the composter to slide together easily — no tools, no hardware.

  • Place on level ground with good drainage
  • Turn compost regularly for best results
  • Rinse with water as needed and allow to air dry

Note: Composters are designed to remain assembled year-round. Disassembly is not recommended.

Customer Reviews (4.6 / 5 · 5 reviews)

Riley G. ★★★★★

The boards are noticeably thicker than my last bin, and the extra weight makes it feel solid even when packed with wet scraps. Assembly was straightforward with the pre-drilled holes lining up perfectly.

Leo U. ★★★★★

I was worried it'd feel flimsy like my last bin, but this thing has real heft to it. The cedar smells amazing and the 3/4 inch boards don't flex at all when I turn the pile. Two months in and it's holding up perfectly through rain and sun.

Abigail ★★★★★

This thing is a beast compared to the flimsy ones I've had before—the 3/4 inch boards make it feel solid and it's actually heavy enough to stay put in windy weather.
